GMF Food Drive

In Cumberland County, 13% of residents have limited access to healthy food and nearly one in five (19%) of residents are considered food insecure.

This could be you, or your neighbor. That family down the street, or that new guy at work. Food insecurity can affect anyone. 23.5 % of those living in food insecure homes, are children.

We need your help to make a difference for these families & individuals.

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina, we work tirelessly to fight hunger one day at a time. We serve seven counties in our state, diligently partnering with over 200 nonprofit organizations to distribute food daily to those in need.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina was founded in 1984, as a program of Action Pathways, Inc.

Currently, SHFB secures, stores, and distributes more than 10 million pounds of food annually. This food is generously donated by major retailers, local wholesalers and warehouses, other food banks, and through food drives held by individuals, businesses, schools, and civic organizations. Additional food, including fresh produce from small, local farms, is purchased for SHFB programs.

We are certified members of Feeding America– a network of 200 food banks across the country – and Feeding the Carolinas.

Action Pathways is a private, non-profit human services agency offering a comprehensive and supportive approach to helping families and individuals achieve and sustain economic security—effectively providing them a path forward in life. Action Pathways has developed and operated successful community-based programs in southeastern North Carolina for over 50 years. The agency is part of a national network of community action programs whose promise is to change people’s lives, embody the spirit of hope, improve communities, and make America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

An Action Pathways program : Individuals are selected for the program based on: Cumberland or Sampson County residency, federal income requirements, and a commitment to full participation in the ASPIRE program to include obtaining employment. We work with organizations and government offices throughout southeastern North Carolina, and have cultivated strong relationships to ensure our clients get the help they need. ASPIRE clients take their own, individualized pathway to self-sufficiency. Our managers see them through each step of the way and celebrate their achievements.

Food Lion believes no one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from or have to make the choice between paying bills or buying food. That is why it is important for us to provide support to nourish our local communities through Food Lion Feeds, our philanthropic giving platform focused on alleviating food insecurity.
