New WFNC Sports to continue Terry Sanford broadcasts

August 19, 2019 (Fayetteville, NC) – Cumulus Broadcasting of Fayetteville is proud to announce a new initiative for our cluster of radio stations – WFNC Sports – continuing News Talk 640, WFNC’s partnership with Terry Sanford High School Bulldogs football.

Since 2015, WFNC has carried TSHS football as part of our programming agreement with DK Sports. With the recent passing of DKS founder Don Koonce and the dissolution of DKS, we have decided to continue the partnership and the broadcasts as an in-house production.

We’ll continue to have the experience and quality from the broadcast booth, with Trey Edge and Coach Bill Boyette. Edge, handling play-by-play, is a former Bulldog quarterback who played at the University of North Carolina. Boyette, the color commentator, is a championship-winning former coach at Terry Sanford. Returning as the sideline reporter will be long-time high school football coach, Mark Heil. And from the studio, we’ll have long-time Fayetteville Observer reporter, Sonny Jones.

Regular broadcasts will begin each Friday night at 7 with WFNC Sports GameDay, and kickoff at 7:30. Jones will host the WFNC Sports Halftime and Postgame Reports.

In addition, the Terry Sanford Coach’s Show, featuring Edge with Bulldogs coach Bruce McClelland, will air every Wednesday night during the season, 8-9 pm, live from Sammio’s on Raeford Road.

The TSHS regular season begins this Friday, August 23. WFNC Sports will carry all TSHS games, including potential playoff games. The first TSHS Coach’s Show is this Wednesday, August 21. The complete regular season schedule is attached.
