1957 - While on tour Down Under, Bill Haley & His Comets attended the premiere for the film, Don’t Knock the Rock. Other musicians in the film include Little Richard, and Dave Appell & His Applejacks.

1963 - With friend Chet Helms by her side, Janis Joplin hitchhiked to San Francisco.

1964 - After concluding their first American tour, The Rolling Stones returned to the UK.

1973 - While onstage at a show in New York, Neil Young was handed a piece of paper with news that a peace accord was reached in Vietnam. Young informed the crowd, who then went wild for ten minutes. 

1986 - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held its first annual induction ceremony in New York. Among the first class of inductees are Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.

1988 - With MelvinsDale Crover sitting in on drums, Nirvana recorded a ten song demo with Seattle producer Jack Endino. After hearing the tape, Sub Pop exec Jonathan Poneman offered the band a chance to issue a single.
